EMILY!
Givin the chaos that surrounds this house most days and the attention that Carson seems to demand most of the time Emily tends to get left on the sidelines more than I would like. So I’ve been trying to be very conscious about my time lately – where I’m spending it and setting aside one on one time just for Emily everyday.
Today I made a trip into the city and I just took Emily with me. Just me and my girl. We had such a nice time together and it was a wonderful treat being with JUST her. This has been one of the hardest things for me – since becoming a parent of two – which was 17 months ago now. (How can that be!!) Trying to balance my time between the two of them and give them each the attention they deserve without wearing myself out in the meantime.
So I’ve started putting Carson down for his afternoon nap and while he’s falling asleep (you know – while I can still hear him playing in his crib for about 20 – 30 minutes before he’s out) I read or color with Emily or we paint our nails. I’ll watch her ride her bike in front of the house. She even loves to just help me out with chores – bonus. Folding laundry, preparing meals. Her favorite would be to make chocolate chip cookies.
Nothing that is gonna win me ‘mother of the year’ by any means, just what I’ve been trying to do lately to make sure my sweet girl knows how special she is to me.
So here are some random facts for you in honor of Emily day:
-Emily is an American girl – Canadian at heart – but born in Dallas, TX.
-Emily is 3 1/2 but REALLY, really, REALLY wants to be four (asks me everyday when it’s going to be her birthday)
-loves animals
-loves Dora and Iego
-cannot stand it if the bottom of her pant legs get wet – to the point where she’ll roll up her pants to her knees when going outside if she suspects rain/snow.
-has to change clothes immediately if she gets the slightest spill on her shirt
-Emily loves reading books
-Emily was 8 lbs 3 oz. when she was born and was 11 days overdue
-Her favorite color is now pink – but it used to be orange

Totally hear you on the struggle of trying to balance your time and attention with each of the kids. So wonderful that you were able to spend mommy-daughter time together. :o)

I have no idea about the mom to two kiddos; but I can imagine that the struggle is tremendous. Kudos to you for making some mommy and me time with Emily. Great mom you are!!!!

I’m not sure when they stop counting the days to their birthday – my 4-1/2-year-old keeps trying to shorten the number of days he has to wait (til May).
Do you think you’ll ever forget those extra 11 days you were pregnant?! I thought 8 days overdue was bad, so I give you lots of credit for hanging in there so long.
Emily looks adorable in the photos. Have a good week.
