14 Free Fall Fonts for Crafts, Printables & Creative Projects

Thursday, September 18, 2014

There’s something about fall that makes me want to create! Cozy colors, pumpkins, falling leaves and all the little details of the season are perfect inspiration for printables, crafts and creative projects.

If you’re looking for the perfect font to add a little autumn style to your next project, I’ve rounded up 14 of my favorite fall fonts. You’ll find a mix of handwritten, vintage, whimsical and classic styles that are perfect for fall printables, invitations, signs, photo projects, seasonal crafts and more.

A quick note about font licenses: Font availability and usage terms can change over time. Be sure to check the current license on the font creator’s download page, especially if you plan to use a font for a commercial project.

What do you use fonts for?

I use fonts all the time when I’m designing free printables and adding text to my photos. Fonts are one of the most fundamental design tools and they can add so much to whatever it is you’re creating!

I use Photoshop in all my design work, but I always recommend Photoshop Elements to those looking to start out in design and photo editing. It’s an amazing program! Another great option if you want to start creating with fonts is to try out PicMonkey. Picmonkey is a free online photo editor. You can use it to fix your photos, add beautiful filters and text and it’s really easy to use!

 14 Fall Fonts

Click any font name below to visit its download page. I’ve collected these favorites from several of my go-to font sources around the web. Be sure to check the current licensing information before downloading, especially if you plan to use a font commercially.

14 Fall Fonts

  1. Brassie
  2. Montserrat
  3. Playball
  4. Lemondrop
  5. *Berkshire Swash
  6. Rye
  7. Caveat
  8. Cormorant Garamond
  9. Hoedown
  10. Old Photograph
  11. *Amperzand
  12. Sevillana
  13. IM Fell English
  14. Slaberlin

Fonts marked with an asterisk were available free for personal use when this post was updated. Font availability and licensing can change, so always check the font creator’s current terms before using a font for commercial projects.

How to Download & Install Fonts

Downloading a new font is pretty simple! Click the font name in the list above to visit its download page, then follow the instructions provided by the font creator or font site.

Once the font file is downloaded:

  • Open the downloaded file (you may need to unzip it first).
  • Look for a .TTF or .OTF font file.
  • Double-click the font file and choose Install.
  • If you already have your design program open, close and reopen it so your new font appears in the font menu.

Before downloading or using a font, be sure to check its current license. Some free fonts are for personal use only, while others can also be used for commercial projects.

My Favorite Tools for Printing at Home

I create and print a lot of projects at home, and there are a couple of supplies I reach for again and again.

I love my Epson EcoTank printer. The refillable ink tanks are especially handy when you print frequently, and I use mine for everything from everyday documents to printables and creative projects.

For projects that need a little more weight than regular printer paper, I use Astrobrights Bright White 65 lb cardstock. It’s an inexpensive staple I keep on hand for printables, tags, cards and other paper projects.
