In this digital age, the large amount of photos we collect can quickly become overwhelming. Keeping all these photos organized is no small task and is something I’ve struggled to keep on top of – but not anymore! 2015 is the year I get this photo collection under control and I invite you to join me on this ‘One Year to More Organized Photos’ journey!
I’m excited to introduce this monthly series to the blog in the new year! You can follow along as I purge, re-organize and take control of my ever-growing digital photo pile!
We’ll be touching on all areas of photo organization including:
-how to get started
-digital file storage and organization
-photo printing
-editing, cropping, saving and sharing images
-safe photo storage
-getting photos in albums
-the ins and outs of backing up your images
Taking photos is really the first step in preserving your precious family memories. Organizing and making sure your treasured photos are safe and accessible is a legacy you’ll leave to your family. If you don’t have a photo organizational system in place right now, I invite you to join me in 2015 and we can conquer this challenge together!

I’ve been coping with this for years and my dad before me. Although he carefully identified people and roughly dated the photos, much interesting, important detail emerged as he and Mom discussed the history behind them. There is too much to wtite about in my thousands of photos. I would start with a family tree, showing faces, names, dates of birth, relationship. Then I would decide which photos to put into scrapbooks, mini books and/or on DVD. I would interview people on tape or any recording device, asking them to answer a few prepared questions. I even got my 2 yr old to sing a song with me…priceless! I am making a list of events, will write or record my memories of it and invite participants to add their memories. Remember. ..brief with key, interesting details. Humor is wonderful! Resolve to improve your photo taking skills. Quit lining people up for pictures. Take candid shots of a few people doing things together. One technique I use is to take videos, panning slowly. Then I print a frame or two. This is how I got a wonderful action shot of a soccer goal being made by our daughter. Remember to include a shot or two of the venue. ..set the stage for the event. Photograph the spectators as well as the actors…reactions are sometimes more telling and interesting than the event.
Those are thoughts off the top of my head. Hope they help. I look forward to following your blog. It’s a great idea!

It is like you read my mind! I was just thinking that 2015 is the year that I need to get my digital photos organized once and for all. I have been so overwhelmed on where to start. I do organize them by month/year but I have so many devices and they are not all saved in one spot. I am also very concerned about backing them up. I am very excited to read this series. I would love to know if you have a favorite photo organization software to save images from several sources.
