I can count on two fingers the number of times I’ve been away from my kids for longer than a night and so when it came time for me to leave last wednesday it was no easy thing. There were lot’s of tears….but I saved them all for the 2 and a half hour drive to Great Falls. It was the two kids standing at the window as I pulled out of the driveway waving and teary eyed that just did me in. (sniff, sniff…I missed those kids so much!)
I stayed overnight in Great Falls (don’t even ask why I had to fly out of Great Falls….oh my goodness! Quite the source of frustration. Just two words for you….no passport)and my flight left early thursday morning for Salt Lake City. In an hour and a half I was there. Sure beats the 12 hours it took us to drive there in the summer! But would you believe it was colder in Utah than it was in Canada? Eeek, it was cold. When I flew in I snapped a few pictures, I thought the fog (though it may have been smog) was really pretty.
So I arrived in Utah safely, collected my bags, got my rental car and headed out onto the freeway. I was so scared about this….but I made it to the Simple office without so much as a wrong turn. Woohoo!
While in Utah there was a book handoff to be done, photos to be taken and shopping to take care of and I’m happy to report that all went well. The handoff was long but it was so great to be there in person, see all my pages/projects together in one place and discuss the look and feel we wanted for the book. I just can’t wait to actually SEE it now!
The photos went just fine. Really made me appreciate my place BEHIND the camera, where I am the most comfortable. There were a few minor hair issues (dry Utah air = lot’s of static people)…but we got those worked out and that was that.
I enjoyed the time I spent in Utah, I got to stay at Rachel Gainer’s house for one night (this is me and Rachel at CHA…thanks again Rachel!)
and then on friday night I stayed with Elisha Snow thanks Elisha! (I was so bad at taking photos – so here’s one from the summer of Elisha, Wendy and I) she and I went out for dinner with Wendy that night to a yummy Chinese food restaurant.
Saturday Elisha and I went out and did a little bit of shopping. I got some really cute clothes for the kids and a new bookfor me. I got to eat at Sonic. YAY! Totally on my list of things I had to do on this trip – EAT AT SONIC!
I stopped in and visited our friends Brett and Kendra who just had their third baby – a little boy – on thursday. He was so darling and it was fun to be able to take a few photos for them.
Sunday morning I had a 6:00am flight to LA and due to a couple of unfortunate events (lot’s of fog preventing me from reading the signs at the airport directing me where to return my rental car and the fact that I didn’t get up until 5:20am that morning) I missed my flight. They got me on standby for the next flight out. There were about 6 of us on standby for the same flight and I was the last person they could squeeze on. I got to LA and was waiting at the baggage claim to pick up my bags when I saw….
Chris Daughtry. It’s not everyday you get to meet a famous person in good ol’ Southern Alberta so I just had to ask for a picture.
And that concludes MY TRIP: Part I. Exciting stuff, I know. I just thought I’d break things up a bit, I didn’t know if you could handle ALL the excitement at once. So stay tuned for MY TRIP: Part II later tonight.
