Since this post when I shared a little bit about my most recent approach to scrapbooking I’ve gotten quite a few emails asking me about the copy of Emily’s artwork that I included on one of her journal pages.
I have an HP Photosmart C7250 all in one printer (nothing fancy, got it at costco on coupon) that I used to scan and shrink down her picture (which was orginally on an 8.5 X 11 inch piece of paper) then printed it on photo paper.
I must admit that was the first time I’d ever thought to shrink her artwork down to a more manageable size. We do have a lot of it hanging around afterall (anyone else?) and finding something to do with it all seems to be an ever growing problem, especially now that we have two in school.
Since experimenting with some of Emily’s artwork and my handy dandy scanner I’ve created this fun little project for her grandparents:

While searching online for more fun ideas of things to do with children’s artwork I’ve come across some amazing ideas that I wanted to share with you!
This darling little company is founded by Donna Gryboski, a mom just like us, who after drowning in all the piles of her children’s artwork decided to take matters into her own hands. There certainly wasn’t enough wall space in her home to display it all and so she began scanning all their artwork and digitizing it. After researching printers and book binders online she had a book created with all of their artwork and while pleased with the result decided to take her idea one step further.
In April 2007 Petite Picasso was born and Donna has been preserving children’s artwork around the country and overseas ever since. Her children’s art books are lovely and what a treasured keepsake! Have a peek at Donna’s website and you’ll find a variety of beautiful products that can be created with your child’s artwork.

thanks for the research and great ideas I have a cupboard that is overpowered by creative kids artwork… not just the time to get it organized—oh well, really can’t it just wait till they’re 10yrs or a high school grad present??LOL

I absolutely LOVE the idea of having a book made of the art! I also love your handy little book gift and smaller wall art college of stuff.
I don’t have a very big scanner, but I’ve already taken a few pictures of favorite school artworks to either make a layout or now…a book!

Thanks for these awesome ideas. I am moving house in 5 weeks and have been thinking about ways I could use the kids art works around our home…so excited to get there now!!!!!
These are all wonderful, but I think the one I will use for a summer project with the girls is the art book. I’ll let them choose which projects they want me to scan and I’ll let them have their own little book of art to keep in their rooms, and of course, make one for me, too!
Another comment…when you scanned the artwork and printed, did you do a full size page or reduce? What size did you reduce to? Would you do that size again or try a different size?

This is a great idea! I never thought that aside from preserving a child’s artwork, scanning them would make for a great compilation. I especially love the wall displays. I also think creating a book from them would be a good idea for gifts, or even as items that can be sold.
