A Simple Birthday Tradition & Project Life Tip

A few years ago I started a little birthday tradition of jotting down a list of things I was grateful for that corresponded in number to the age I was turning. This is the third year I’ve done it and its become one of the things I look forward to most about my birthday.
This year I decided to put my list together in the form of a Project Life page and I can’t wait to add a new one of these to my album each July!

The supplies I used for this page are: Project Life Jade Edition // 1.5″ Circle Punch // American Crafts Pen // Fabric Tape // Plier Stapler // My Favorite Design A Pocket Pages

The Jade Edition has quickly become one of my favorites. I loved mixing in a few items from my stash + using the digi papers to create my own custom cards. For those of you that have asked, I do print some of my PL cards off at home on matte white cardstock, but  I currently print my photos at Costco. I’m in the market for a new printer – I’m really not impressed with the one we’ve got – so if you have any recommendations I’m all ears! 🙂

>> PROJECT LIFE QUICK TIP <<
Here’s a quick tip when working with color photos in your layouts, especially photos from different events that don’t necessarily have the same color tones. If you’d like them all to have a cohesive look + to coordinate with page elements then you can try doing a little color tweaking in PS or PSE.
On the photos for this layout I applied a faded, vintage wash to all of them giving them all a similar tone that really went well with the colors of the PL cards I chose to use. If you don’t want to use actions you can open up your photo, go to the IMAGE menu, seclect ADJUSTMENTS and then play around with the HUE/SATURATION or the COLOR BALANCE to tweak your photos. If you have a photo that really stands out like a sore thumb from the rest you can always try switching it to B/W.
I’ve got a few fun things in the works so please excuse the slow blogging these days. I’m excited to share with you how I’ll be documenting our Summer…here’s a little peek at what’s in store!  More details coming to the blog next week!

    What a great idea!!
Since I’ve turned 30 I don’t like birthdays as much as I used to.
Maybe this will help me to enjoy them again ;o).

Hope you had a wonderful birthday.

What a great idea, listing all the things you’re thankful for each birthday! I love the page you made, too. Lovely soft colours and muted tones. Did you also soften down the jade card, or is it always that soft?

I think its lighter due to my printer + the processing of the photos I took of the finished page – its def darker in the actual kit. 🙂

As a photographer, do you find the quality of the Costco photos acceptable? I am always so hesitant to print at Walgreens, Costco, etc. when I spend so much time editing my photos….

@Jen When I’m printing for my scrapbooks I’m not as picky when printing for my walls but Costco has done a great job for me so far. You just have to make sure that when you place an order you check the box that says “DO NOT AUTOCORRECT’ and then they’ll leave your images as is. You can also speak to someone at the photo centre about calibrating your monitor to their machines – I did that in Canada and had perfect results. When printing their I’m also not afraid to ask for my prints to be redone if they aren’t to my liking. Another place I’m really eager to try is Persnickety Prints – I’ve heard great things about them. 🙂

@Fionna that’s how it came out on my printer. It isn’t much darker in real life though. 🙂

@Rebecca–I LOVE Persnickety!!! Since I have to pay for shipping, I try to place larger orders at once…which can impede the progress on my Project Life pages that I want to do weekly. Thanks for the Costco info!

I love this birthday idea Rebecca. I’ve done it for my kids birthdays before (thinks you love at this age)but never myself.
I also love the faded vintage wash colors of your photos. Do you have an action that you use? I have PSE so I’ve had a hard time finding an action that works

Hermoso el proyecto y me encanta esta tradición en el día de cumpleaños de hacer la lista de cosas por las que te sientes agradecida.Y cuantos más años, más cosas que agradecer!!

Did you just turn 35? Me too!!! July 7th. We are the same age–fun. I simply love and adore your designs, they are so fresh and beautiful, and I really really want to get started with project life. I’ve got years of memories scrapbooked, but haven’t done it for a few. I’ve got a project life kit waiting for me when I do start!
