SIMPLE THINGS SUNDAY No. 121
We skipped school Thursday {shhh…don’t tell anyone} and headed up to the mountains for some skiing/snowboarding at Castle. It was Addie’s first time and she did so good! She was flying down the bunny hill faster than me by the end of the day! It had been 10 years since I snowboarded and I can’t believe I still remembered how! It was a fun family day and we made lots of great memories. We even got to see a couple of Moose on the drive there! Wow, those things are HUGE!

Seventeen Simple St. Patrick’s Day Ideas

It’s March! Happy month of St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I don’t know what I love about this holiday so much! It could be the rainbows or the fact that its all about one of my most favourite colours – GREEN!
I just love St. Patrick’s Day! But as with any holiday, I don’t believe the celebrations need to be expensive or elaborate to be fun and memorable!

SIMPLE THINGS SUNDAY No. 120
We spent another gorgeous day in Waterton yesterday. We went hiking with the kids and some other family members and it couldn’t have been a funner day! We hiked Bears Hump and it was so unique to see this familiar trail and the gorgeous view from the top, in all its winter glory! We did agree that coming down was the best part though. The trail is steep in places and sliding down was a blast! I’m hoping to make at least one more trip back to Waterton this winter to try our hand at some cross country skiing next!

It was a pretty exciting week with Valentine’s Day + all the festivities that come along with it. I curled Addie’s hair for preschool on Valentine’s Day and of course little sister wanted hers done too. Two girls with hair all done and some gorgeous sunlight shining through our living room window had me running for my camera! I’m so happy to have a few new photos of these sweet sisters! 🙂

10 Things I Love About You Mini: Olive Edition

Need a quick + meaningful Valentine’s Day gift idea? How about putting together a mini album for your loved one that shares 10 things you love about them! I created this little album for my husband using 3X4 cards from the Project Life Olive Edition Core Kit and I can’t wait to give it to him for Valentine’s Day tomorrow!

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED:
Binder Ring, Ribbon scraps
Your Photos sized 3 X 4 inches
Pen for journaling

Using a variety of 3X4 project life cards for journaling + a few photos, I created two page spreads by glueing photos + cards back to back. If you watch the video below it will make more sense how I put the pages together. Then I simply punched a hole in the upper left corner of each page, secured them all with a binder ring and that was it. All I need to do now is add my journaling and it’s done!
I have a bit of an obsession with mini albums {see here and here}. I just can’t help myself! I love how quickly they come together + how itty bitty they are! This bite-sized memory keeping seems to fit better into my busy schedule sometimes and the little bits that I’m able to record when I have a 1/2 hour here or ten minutes there are so worth it! I’m happy to be able to record even a small portion of our story rather than recording nothing at all while waiting for the opportunity to complete those more lofty scrapbook projects.

Grammar Free Journaling with Big Picture Classes

Hi all! I’m so excited Rebecca gave me the chance to introduce you all to a little something I like to call “grammar-free journaling.”

As you may or may not know, Rebecca has long been a fan of “point-form journaling,” which I suppose is the Canadian way of saying “bulleted lists.” (But the Canadian way sounds just SO MUCH more elegant, doesn’t it?) But no matter what you call it, it’s one of the 12 stress-free writing strategies I’m going to share with you in my upcoming workshop, Grammar-Free Journaling, which starts this Thursday at bigpictureclasses.com.


What is “grammar-free journaling”? Well, I’ll tell you. In my 4-week workshop, I’ve gathered 12 fun strategies for writing journaling for scrapbook pages in new and exciting ways, with absolutely no paragraphs required! You can forget about sentence structure, paragraph flow, punctuation, and anything that stresses you out about writing—and still tell great stories. In no time, you’ll be journaling in checklists, spreadsheets, pie charts, lists, quizzes, and even a bit of painless poetry.


Here’s one of my favorite layout examples from the workshop, which shares a five-question quiz that I sent to six other scrapbookers (three of them under the age of 12!) and asked them all to create their own take on it. My layout shares simple, list-style journaling for each question, which is tucked inside those cute pockets.

The beginnings of my 2010-2011 Project Life Album

In August 2010 our family of six moved to a tiny island in the Dutch Caribbean. We spent 17 months living there and made some incredible family memories during that time! It’s a period in our lives that I’ve wanted to document since we returned home over a year ago and I’m so thankful to finally be recording some of our island adventures thanks to project life! 
I’ve just started my album and here’s a quick peek at the pages I’ve created so far. I’m using the Olive Edition Core Kit + binder + a few of my own creations and miscellaneous supplies. It’s not going to be anything fancy – I plan to keep it simple and just focus on the photos + the stories. You can scroll down to the bottom of this post for a set of FREE beach themed project life printables that coordinate with the Olive edition.

I wanted to add a bunch of journaling about our little beach baby – Alivia was just 8 months old when we moved to the island – but I just didn’t love the way it looked in the page layout and I also had too many photos I wanted to include. To get around this I tucked a 3X4 journaling card in behind one of the photos, filled it front and back with journaling + stapled a couple loops of ribbon to it so it could easily be pulled out to read.
Here is the other page I’ve created so far. I used a 4X6 card from the Olive Edition core kit + some printables that I created and that are available for FREE download below.

I still plan to put together an album for 2013, but will be playing catchup on a couple of other projects first. In the mean time, I’m busy recording the everyday details I want to remember in my Project Life Notebook. I carry it everywhere with me in my planner so that I can make notes + jot down ideas at home or while waiting in the car to pick up kids, etc. You can read more about what I plan to do with my 2013 Project Life album in this post.

One other thing I’m doing right now with my 2013 photos, is arranging some of them into a photo collage that highlights the events of each month. I’ll be printing out these collages + including them in my 2013 album. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and just love the collection of monthly photo collages that I’m left with at the end of the year. You can see my very first collage for 2013 pictured above.
