My kids adore owls! Who knew there were so many books about these fluffy, nocturnal birds!

My four year old has been learning about owls in preschool the past few weeks and she’s become absolutely fascinated by these fluffy little birds! We had so much fun with the Fall themed books we collected earlier this month that we decided it would be fun to go with an owl theme and find as many books as we could to do with owls.
 Here are some of the darling titles that we found and have enjoyed reading together.

Simple Fall Pumpkin Banner

Simple Fall Pumpkin Banner –

A couple of weeks ago I put together this simple pumpkin banner for Fall. I just can’t seem to get enough of these simple book page buntings! Pretty soon I’ll have one for every season! They’re so quick and easy to put together and add just the right handmade touch to our holiday decor. Scroll down for a supply list and instructions on how to create your own pumpkin bunting!
What you’ll need to make your pumpkin bunting:
some string or twine | a stapler | buttons |  orange + green coordinating pattern paper | gluestick or other type of adhesive | some pages from an old book
Here’s how you’ll put it together:
 
1. Using your book pages cut out however many rectangles you’d like approximately 3.5″ x 6″ in size.

2. Snip out a triangle shape from the bottom of your rectangles. Hint: From left to right, find the center of your rectangle then measure approximately 1 3/4 ” from the bottom to find where the top point of your triangle will be.
 
3. Cut out the number of pumpkins you’ll need for each piece of your bunting.

4. Attach pumpkins to your bunting pieces being sure to allow enough room to fold over the top edges. Place a button in the center of each pumpkin. I also added a small leaf to some of my pumpkins.


5. Now you’re ready to put your bunting together. Simply cut a length of string and attach banner pieces to string by folding top edge of banner pieces over the string + staple. Space banner pieces evenly along the string by sliding them back and forth as needed.

6. Now hang that cutie up somewhere and enjoy your new Fall/Halloween decor!

 

I hope you enjoy our little pumpkin bunting as much as I do! It was a lot of fun to put together and looks so darling hanging up in my home office!

Perfect Pumpkin Halloween Treat Mugs

Today I’m sharing a quick and simple Halloween DIY that can be put together last minute as a treat for friends or teachers this year. These little halloween treat mugs are a great way to show someone you appreciate them this holiday and make a perfect handmade project for the kids.

Start with a plain orange mug {we got our at the dollar store}. Using a fine point black sharpie draw a pumpkin face in the centre on the front of the mug. Using a thicker black sharpie fill in your pumpkin face. When drawing with a sharpie on ceramics follow these instructions to make your design permanent! Pretty cool huh!?
Next fill your pumpkin mugs with your favourite orange coloured treat. We used orange tootsie rolls but when I went in search of orange treats I found there were plenty of options. There are orange and black smarties out for halloween, you could use orange slices,  marshmallow circus peanuts, orange jelly bellies, peach salt water taffy, etc! Head to your favourite bulk foods store to stock up and add enough treats to a cellophane bag to fill your mug. Tie with a length of green ribbon or lace, attach a little leaf shaped tag and you’re done! 
I love coming up with handmade gift ideas that the kids can get involved in and these were perfect for the whole family! Let older children draw their own pumpkin faces and for smaller kids you can outline a face and have them colour it in. My kids can’t wait to give these to their teachers and I’m thrilled with how quick + inexpensive they were to put together!

This week we celebrated Addie’s 5th birthday and while we were definitely tired out by the end of it all, we sure had ourselves some fun! Addie wanted a butterfly party so butterflies she got AND she had her very first little friend party which was the most exciting part for her! I love seeing that sweet smile of hers! She was so genuinely excited and grateful for everything – from the imperfect cupcakes to her presents. Addie is such a sweet girl and we’re so lucky to have her in our family!

Five things I’m loving right now

I hope you all have some fun plans for the weekend! We’re hoping to stay home and do some relaxing after a busy birthday week. If I catch a nap at some point that would be so great! 😉

We celebrated our sweet Addie girl’s 5th birthday this week and continuing with the theme of simple + handmade from last years party I created a few inexpensive elements for her butterfly themed soiree. I just love Teresa Collins new {Tell Your Story} line! The colors, the vintage feel – everything – and the papers were absolutely perfect for creating these little invites for Addie’s party! 
I discovered these plastic 4X6 photo containers at the dollar store some time ago and recently stocked up on a few more because I love them so much. They’re the perfect size for crayons, card games, pip squeaks markers and other kids craft supplies! I store so much in these handy little containers and they’re great for grabbing on the go when I need coloring supplies for church or doctors appointments. 
*ETA: I got these containers at Dollarama for those of you asking. I know a lot of you don’t have access to this particular dollar store but I did some searching online and found the same containers available on Amazon:  Clear 4X6 photo cases – 10 pack
My sister was kind enough to lend me this darling book over the Summer and I loved it SO much. I couldn’t put it down and read it cover to cover in one day! This is the author, Julianne Donaldson’s first novel and I canNOT wait to read her next work. Love this book and I recommend it to everyone! 
After a particularly horrendous waxing appointment about a month ago I asked my hairdresser if she had any products she would recommend for at home waxing and she told me about the Gigi Creme Wax microwave waxing kit. Yesterday we enjoyed a few hours at the pumpkin patch and we had such a fun time. There were so many pumpkins to choose from but Livie-lou settled on this little baby one to take home with her. It was so sweet to watch each of the kids pick out their very own pumpkin and of course they can’t wait to carve them!
