Making Everyday Beautiful

friday craft day : cardboard tube watches

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Today I’m sooo excited to introduce you all to Maggy of Red Ted Art! Maggy’s darling blog is filled to the brim with kids craft ideas and so much more! I just love popping by often to see what new things Maggy has up her sleeve.

Today Maggy is sharing a simple, but oh so cute kids craft idea that is featured in her wonderful ebook “Time on your Hands”

cardboard tube watches:
1) Materials: Loo Roll, Scissors, Paper, Pen, Sellotape
2) Cut a strip of loo roll: the armband
3) Cut a circle and draw a watch face
4) Sellotape on (you can glue it, but takes a while to dry!
variations:

-let your toddler decorate the wristband and watch face:
-decorate loo roll: with feathers, fake gems, paint, pens, whatever takes your fancy (avoid glitter with this one, you will have it ALL over the house)
-instead of loo roll, cut a strip of coloured card and sellotape it – good for older childrenwith bigger wrists.
-Maybe you can be SUPER crafty and with a pin make a moving clock arms

Doesn’t this sound so fun!

The kids and I loved making our own watches this past week!
How about a quick story to go along with Craft day?
I thought these ones looked fun:
Clocks and More Clocks
Clocks and More Clocks by Pat Hutchins
Croc around the Clock by Dereen Taylor

The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle
Thanks so much for sharing this simple craft idea with us Maggy!

I just wanted to let everyone know that paper towel rolls are a much more sanitary way of getting cardboard tubes. I work for a parent education company and we are not allowed to use tp rolls because of the bacteria that is potentially on them. A friend told me that she bakes hers in the oven to kill anything that might be on them. Sorry to gross everyone out, just want to protect from germs.
