Today I’m sharing a quick and simple Halloween DIY that can be put together last minute as a treat for friends or teachers this year. These little halloween treat mugs are a great way to show someone you appreciate them this holiday and make a perfect handmade project for the kids.
Start with a plain orange mug {we got our at the dollar store}. Using a fine point black sharpie draw a pumpkin face in the centre on the front of the mug. Using a thicker black sharpie fill in your pumpkin face. When drawing with a sharpie on ceramics follow these instructions to make your design permanent! Pretty cool huh!?
Next fill your pumpkin mugs with your favourite orange coloured treat. We used orange tootsie rolls but when I went in search of orange treats I found there were plenty of options. There are orange and black smarties out for halloween, you could use orange slices, marshmallow circus peanuts, orange jelly bellies, peach salt water taffy, etc! Head to your favourite bulk foods store to stock up and add enough treats to a cellophane bag to fill your mug. Tie with a length of green ribbon or lace, attach a little leaf shaped tag and you’re done!
I love coming up with handmade gift ideas that the kids can get involved in and these were perfect for the whole family! Let older children draw their own pumpkin faces and for smaller kids you can outline a face and have them colour it in. My kids can’t wait to give these to their teachers and I’m thrilled with how quick + inexpensive they were to put together!
