Making Everyday Beautiful

Simple things Sunday – Daughter

Sunday, September 7, 2014

Simple things Sunday is about slowing down and capturing life’s everyday details. Taking joy in the simple things is the focus and Sunday is the day we gather together to reflect on our experiences from the week and share our photos with each other. #SimpleThingsSunday

What Heaven Sees in YouThis girl of ours had milestone week! In the Mormon church, when you turn 12 years old, you’re able to attend certain aspects of Temple service and this past week Emily was able to go for the first time. It was such a special experience and I’m so grateful her Dad and I could be there with her.

Please indulge this proud Mom as she gushes for a little minute…

I’m incredibly proud of this beautiful girl and the choices she’s made in her life that have lead her to this important point. There’s a song I love, called What Heaven Sees in You. As a Mom of 3 girls it’s always held a special place in my heart and the first two lines of the song are especially dear to me.

“Sent to this Earth, you were saved through the ages for this day and time. Child of great worth, child of promise, daughter of the Divine.”

As I look at the girl before me, who has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, seemingly overnight, I hope and pray that she will always (always) remember her great worth. Remember that she is a daughter of a Father in Heaven who loves her. That her potential is far reaching and Eternal. I hope and pray that knowledge will stay with her through life’s ups and downs and that she will continue on the path that she’s on and share goodness wherever she goes!

What a beautiful post celebrating such a wonderful milestone. I think I’ll share this with my YW next week – we have a temple family history challenge, and I think these words would be particularly poignant. Thanks you so much for sharing!

I love this photo and the blown out sky…is this an “action” or did you manage this look via the settings in your camera?

The sky was pretty bright behind her Brooke, so in setting my exposure for my daughter’s face, the sky was naturally blown out. I also applied a soft vintage action to the image which brightened the background even more. I hope that helps! Have a great Sunday! 🙂

I know how special this must have been – and hear your love and all that “good kind of pride” in every word you write. I remember sharing with my young teen the day of her baptism, and with my young woman, the day of her wedding. These milestones are so meaningful, and the building blocks of the story their childhood and lives will tell. Thanks for sharing this special moment with us!!

Oh wow. What a lovely memory moment. I can hardly believe this is the same pig tail girl who hopped in my van for kindergarten car pool. They are growing so fast. Sigh. May her spirit continue to grow as beautifully as she is.
