We have a little two year old on our hands who has decided that he no longer wants to take naps. He still needs a nap (I still need him to need a nap) but I cannot seem to convince him of this.
We went swimming today and I had to pop into Walmart after to grab a couple of things and somewhere between the toy aisle and the baby department this was the scene.
Poor thing was completly exhausted! I must say all the head bobbing he did before he finally found this comfy (?) spot was quite entertaining (am I so bad?) My kids never just fall asleep in random places like this…so this was a very rare photo op indeed.
So, what’s the verdict? Think he still needs an afternoon nap?

My two year old is currently doing the same thing. If she doesn’t have a nap she is a BEAR by 5:30/6PM. Most days she just lays in her crib- talking and reading for an hour instead of napping. I’ve just decided that I need this hour and if this is the naptime-so be it. (by the way- I have been lurking and I love your blog. I am friends with E.Dillow’s younger sister way out in Ohio)

He is so cute! Good thing you had your camera on you! What a great shot. 😉
Swimming really poops my kids out. He probably still needs a nap at 2, but a nice swim (or ‘swimming’ in a warm bath) will help convince him (or at least his body) that needs a nap!

Oh, that is too funny. But don’t tell me the no nap thing starts so soon… I’m not ready to give them up anytime soon! (My son is 15 months…)

That is a hilarious shot! Glad that you were able to capture it. Can’t believe that they outgrow naps so quickly.

maggie’s done that a few times on me! too funny. funny that you had your camera. I guess I need to carry mine around more. I hate that stage when they stop having naps. it is hard on the moms!

Payton is doing EXACTLY the same thing right now…we’ve finally settled on skipping the naps, which means she just goes to bed earlier!
carson is so cute!

i think this is one of the WORST stages. When they totally need the nap but fight against it. Sorry to hear that is on the way out!

My kids would do this, too! The leaning back pose is also quite entertaining!

Oh boy. Reminds me of my little boy, only he isn’t even two yet. He started refusing to take naps and his father agrees he shouldn’t have to if he doesn’t want to. The worst part about it is that come 8:oo at night he still isnt’t tired (and he isn’t necessarily ornery either) So at this point the only option I have is to find a way to deal with my OVER energetic little boy for an extra 1/12 hours each day.
I so know how you feel. Mothers NEED their children to have naps!
