Finding nice {fresh} fruits on the island can sometimes be a challenge, especially when the waters are rough and ships can’t bring food in from the neighboring island of Sint Maarten. It seems like I’m always on the search for a good bunch of bananas so when I do find some at one of the local shops I buy as many as I can. (We have a couple of banana trees in our new yard and are waiting for them to ripen so we can enjoy the fresh bananas. We can’t wait!)
Our family of 6 can sure go through a lot of bananas! This week we used them in smoothies, the baby loved them mashed up and the big kids loved them in their school lunches. I even baked a batch of banana bread and it tasted just like at home. Such a simple thing – to find some bananas at the shop on a thursday morning, but it made me so happy!
If you’d like to participate in the simple things photo challenge this week you can read all the details here.
I can’t wait to see your photos!

Very few of my favorite smoothies are without 1/2 of a banana. Love the simplicity of your shot.

Rebecca, we had a cyclone in Australia where the bananas are grown a couple of years ago, the price per kg sky rocketed and you could hear the collective groan of mothers of young children country wide! It was funny to see mums come out of the supermarket with one treasured banana to be shared among the children – thank goodness they are readily available at a good price now!
